One man is dead afterward a bomb detonated aboard a Daallo Airlines flight yesterday. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, was forced to return to the Somali upper-case letter of Mogadishu not long after lifting off.

Authorities were initially uncertain if a bomb had gone off or if the aircraft had suffered some other form of pressure loss. As my colleague Matt Humphries has pointed out at Geek, however, the hole in the fuselage appears to have been blown outward and the edges are scorched and blackened. There also appears to be damage to the fuselage behind the blast indicate.

A number of facts around the incident are notwithstanding unclear. Early on reports accept suggested a timed flop, which may explicate why it exploded only five minutes later takeoff. The shipping, Flying D3159, was reportedly delayed — a prompt departure might have meant an explosion subsequently in the flight, when the cabin was fully pressurized and the aircraft to a higher place 30,000 feet.

Al-Shabaab pledged its support to al-Qaeda equally recently as 2022, merely the group has supposedly been carve up over whether or non to back up ISIS. One elderly man was sucked through the hole and killed, 2-three others (reports vary) are said to have suffered small-scale injuries.
